Privacy

The short version: we collect as little as we can. There are no ads and no tracking cookies on this site, and we never sell or rent your information.

This site, mvhotndirty.com, is run by Byte & Barrel LLC ("we", "us"), the company behind M/V Hot 'n Dirty. Questions go to hello@mvhotndirty.com.

If you subscribe to the newsletter: your email address, and your first name if you give it. We use it only to send new episodes and stories. Our email service is Kit, which stores the list for us. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and one click takes you off the list.

If you use the contact form: your name, email address and message. We use them only to reply. The form is protected from spam by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a real person is sending it, usually without a puzzle, and is not used for advertising. Messages reach our inbox through Resend, an email delivery service.

When you visit: we count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics. It doesn't use cookies or identify you; it tells us which pages are read and roughly which country visitors come from. Our host, Cloudflare, also keeps short-lived technical logs (such as IP addresses) to keep the site secure and running.

On your own device: the site remembers whether you picked dark or light mode, in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device.

YouTube videos use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode and don't load at all until you press play. Once you do, Google's privacy policy applies to that video.

The shop is run by Fourthwall, which handles checkout, payment, shipping and returns as the seller of record. When you buy something, you give your details to Fourthwall, not to us, under Fourthwall's privacy policy. Fourthwall shares with us what we need to fulfil and support your order.

The map uses map tiles from OpenFreeMap, and the fonts come from Bunny Fonts. Your browser asks those services for the files directly, so they see your IP address, but neither sets cookies.

Links to other sites, including any affiliate links (see our affiliate disclosure), take you to sites with their own privacy policies.

We don't sell, rent or trade personal information, or share it for advertising. We don't run ad networks or cross-site tracking. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13; if you think a child has sent us something, tell us and we'll delete it.

About the boat: where we are is published on a delay, and we never announce a passage in advance. That's for our safety, and it's the only location this site shows.

Newsletter addresses stay until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Contact messages stay in our inbox as long as we need them to keep up the conversation. Analytics are kept only as counts.

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@mvhotndirty.com and we'll respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live, for example California or the European Union, the law may give you these rights formally; we offer them to everyone.

If we add a service that handles your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
